As I watch my three year old playing Barbies today, I am thrown by how accurate she can play out real life scenarios! There's always a Mommy, Daddy and of course a child, and for some reason the Mommy barbie is always yelling at the Daddy barbie.....Ok, in my defence, I don't see it as yelling as it happens, but more as a harsh tone lol but it brings to light how my child perceives my actions! What a wake up call!!
Now I'm far from perfect, there I said it, haha and quite obviously needed this well played reality check to make me realize my daughter paid way more attention to me then I thought. So yes, I will now check myself before I open my big mouth and complain over my hubby's inability to pick his socks up off the living room floor, or his forgetting to take out the garbage once again lol
As Moms, our kids look up to us, even idolize us, and we try to set the best example possible. After the Barbie incident today, I worry maybe I'm not setting the best example...then my thoughts go to that place I'm sure we all go to at some point, " Am I screwing my child up?"
Well, I probably am, I think we all do in some ways, but THAT'S OK! I figure as long as we keep trying, working at it, reminding ourselves they're always watching us, then maybe, just maybe, they won't turn out as bad as we imagine :)
